Oh Sims!! I've Missed You!

Since the partial reformatting of my Mom's computer (the only in the vicinity of good enough to play The Sims 2) I've not been able to play my much loved game. I installed it a few days ago and got an error when I tried to play it. I swear in the past few days I've been to every message board with a thread that has a name something like "Unable to find directx 9.0c compatible graphic adapter..." I will never again doubt how dramatic people can be. I tried every solution throw out on the message boards and nothing worked (I even download a Windows XP Service Pack from Microsoft. Mom's computer runs Windows 2000). Finally today I sat down with a new determination. I'd play the game before Dad 'fixed' the computer and I would play it again. When I asked for help my Dad commented that the driver I needed was probably on a CD in a clear jewel case. Easy enough, until I started looking for it. For one thing I was looking the computer room. We have an entire room devoted to computers. Three computers in there. There are more CDs in here than in FYE. But I found it. I'm just that good. I popped the CD in and installed the driver, then reinstalled DirectX 9.0 for probably the eighth time this week. And it didn't work. So I asked once more for my Dad's help. And he did something. It's not that I don't understand what he did to make it work, more that neither of us have any idea what he did. But who cares. The Sims works.

I spent the better part of this afternoon playing. It's an addictive game, what can I say? My sister came down, looked at the screen and said "she has glasses, so that's you." Yeah. I asked her what she thought of my guy and she didn't answer. She knows me too well. My Sims 2 family: Meg Winchester, Dean Winchester. If you can't live out your adolescent fantasies on The Sims where can you live them out? I only wish I was better at making the characters look like I want them to. They never look good enough.

My favorite thing about using television characters in The Sims is the things they do that they'd never do in their "real life". For instance, while I was playing The Sims today I glanced at what Dean was doing and he was sitting on the floor of their kitchen, writing in his diary. Would Dean Winchester ever admit to writing in a diary? I think not. This is how I imagine it (let's assume that Sam is the other character):
"Hey Dean, what are you doing?"
"Nothing." Dean mumbles, sliding the black book into his jacket pocket.
"What's that? Is that a diary?" Sam asks spotting the book.
"What?! No! It's a journal."
"What's the difference, Dean?"
"Diaries are for sissies. You have a diary. Journals are hunting tools."
"Right."

Yep, that's how it goes down in my head. Now I wanna see it on the show. We've already seen Dean's journal. It's just never been advertised. Check this:

Oh wait. That has nothing to do with what I was typing about. Check this one out:

The black book. The one I've only seen that once (but may go through all of season one to see if it's anywhere else). I'm assuming that's Dean's journal. His Dad had one, why can't he?

Anyway, I have to go to school tomorrow. Night.

Loss

Title: Loss

Author: Meg

Fandom: Supernatural

Author's Notes: Take from CreativeWritingPrompts.com Prompt #165: Think of a memorable character (from a book, film or tv show). Craft a story about that character losing the most valuable thing he or she owns.

Characters: Dean Winchester (Supernatural).

Spoilers: "All Hell Breaks Loose" Parts One and Two.

He was so pale. So still. So lifeless -- no. He couldn't be gone.

It had to be a dream, nightmare. This wasn't right. Dean wiped his eyes tiredly, banishing the tears. This wasn't his Sam. His Sammy. It was a mistake. Sam was somewhere else waiting for him. This was someone else. He tried to convince himself, but deep down hidden in the core of all the pain he knew it wasn't true.

Dean stared almost sightlessly at his Sammy. There was no movement and all he could do was stare. How long he sat there staring he did not know. But as quick as lightning he had an idea...and it went against everything he believed in.

What's dead should stay dead.

And everything he fought so hard against. But it didn't matter because without Sammy nothing mattered, and the crossroads was only a few miles away.

And that's what happens when the urge to write takes over.

On the topic of Supernatural...the complete season 2 DVD set is to be released on September 11, 2007. And when I have more time I'll make a countdown that can count down (crazy, I know) the time between now (whenever now is) and 12:01 am September 11, 2007. I'll be in Vermont by then. Taking classes in college.

"Shadow": My Over-Active Imagination

I just watched the episode "Shadow" (of Supernatural, duh!). By the end I was thinking that it really needed a good fanfiction tag. And by that I mean, at the end of the episode all three guys are pretty hurt, but Dean is bent over and wavering, etc. Now this may be because of how Jensen played it, but I would love it if there was a really good fanfic where Dean was more hurt than he let on.

I went looking for a fanfic that fit that description and found one (sort of), but first I want to try to show what I mean about Dean using screencaps. And if that doesn't work then at least we can look at the pretty pictures.

These two pictures are from the second "meeting" with the Daeva. Notice how Dean has his arm protectively covering his ribs. That's what I see at least.

This picture amazes me. If you look at the big version (and I have) Jensen's eyes look cloudy, kinda unfocused. Which I'm going to say is because Dean got his butt kicked by the Daeva.

I'm pretty sure this screencap spurs on Wincest lovers (that's right...Winchester incest), which I am not. I think it's a cute picture though. It looks like Dean is about to just nap right there.

Okay, so my proof that Dean is beat up more than he lets on is flimsy, but rewatch the scene and listen because there's so pretty gruesome sound effects and one of the Daevas (Daevi??) does seems to hang around Dean. And who really cares. There are pretty pictures.

BTW, these screencaps are from Striped Wall (http://stripedwall.com) and Screencap Paradise (http://screencap-paradise.com).

I said I'd found a story that I was looking for kind of. Here it is: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2839092/1/. It's a very well written story (and I know. I've read a lot of stuff on fanfiction.net). The only reason it's not perfect is because they end up in the hospital. I feel like that cheating. I'm just wierd. I like the stories where they (The Winchester Brothers) stay in a motel and patch each other up. Because that's the way it is in the show. In the first season they went to the hospital once (I think) and that was in "Faith" when Sam ran downstairs after saving the kids to find his brother lying in a puddle and (with how powerful Dean had made those tasers) probably not breathing. And I'm glad that they don't always end up in hospitals because if I wanted to watch hot guys in a hospital I'd flip over to Grey's Anatomy. Though, let's be honest, Jensen and Jared are way hotter than Patrick Dempsey, Eric Dane, Isaiah Washington, T.R. Knight and Justin Chambers. And Jeffrey Dean Morgan gets credit for being on both shows.

I have news. And it's exciting for me. On August 25, 2007, Me and two friends (Monique and Bailey) are taking a car trip to Boston, Massachusetts. To see Drake Bell in concert. Monique is buying the tickets tomorrow I believe. I'm super excited. We were supposed to see him in concert at a ski resort on Wachusett Mountain in Princton, Massachusetts (I believe), but it got canceled so we had a sleepover instead. That concert date was never really for sure though and had to be canceled due to the large number of people planning to show up (too many according to fire safety codes). I'm looking over information for the concert:
It's at the Bank of America Pavilion in Boston, MA.
It starts at 7pm.
Performing will be Aly & AJ, Corbin Bleu, Drake Bell and Bianca Ryan.
That's right. Corbin Bleu and Drake Bell in the same building...at the same time (and for the same performance). WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! This is information I did not know. Sara's gonna be so jealous, she loves Corbin Bleu.

Side Note: I want to read some of this author's stories when I have time: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/596294/.

This post brought to you by this YouTube video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=a9ZKwtgoZfY, chocolate, the internet, and pure excitement.

I feel like making a desktop picture (since I have all those screencap sites open.

Goals for the near future: survive tomorrow's chorus/band concert. I'm a soprano I and I have a cold. I can barely speak coherently, let alone hit those high notes...ugh.

We've Been Cited

My friend Monique (who is the co-owner of Serendipity with me) is writing her senior paper on blogs (I wrote mine on celebrities and why people idolize them. note to self: post a copy of my senior paper on here). Monique and I have lots of things in common: web design, going to Champlain next year, NCIS, Supernatural, and odd sources for our senior paper. I managed to cite two of the IMDb.com message boards in my senior paper: Jensen Ackles and Clay Aiken. Monique manage to cite...me. She talked about how blogs can be used to talk about favorite tv shows (I'm the perfect example of this). I haven't read her paper, but maybe when she's finished I can put a piece of it on here to prove that I've been cited in a school project, and senior paper is a large part of the senior English grade.

Charlie the Unicorn: Some People Just Have to Much Free Time

Almost everybody has seen the "Charlie the Unicorn" video on YouTube.com. And for those who haven't here's a link to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgO3NcG3IHM. It's a funny video, though a little annoying if watched too many times.

Once you've watched that there are so many remakes that people have made in their spare time. I found my favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6DjeK2xIZc. That's right...someone put Supernatural clips to Charlie the Unicorn. And my friends think I'm obsessed. I just spend the time finding this stuff.

And I find alot of stuff. Especially on YouTube. Here is the link to my YouTube profile: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=OverExcitedGeek. As of posting this link I have 291 videos in my favorites list. I don't have any videos that I've made (because I've never made any) but I find some of the best stuff. Very diverse: Supernatural, Dark Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Drake Bell, Jensen Ackles, Stargate (SG-1 and Atlantis), and more. Because...I really have no life.

On a completely unrelated topic. We bought season 2 of Stargate Atlantis yesterday. I'd seen most of the episodes, and have now watched the ones I hadn't seen, but I can't wait to watch commentaries and special features.

(No Title): That Bodes Well For My NaNoWriMo Novel

The following was written "for" NaNoWriMo. I will not be using this in my novel. I'm just trying to get to know my character. The rules say that outlines are okay. I'm outlining my character.

Air from outside rushed in through the open windows. The breeze blew lazily around the kitchen, messing Jordan's hair and distracting her from her work.

"Can I go outside now?" Her hair was tied up in little pigtails, keeping it out of her face despite the slight breeze.

"Once you finish your s's we'll go out for a break." Her mother sounded calm. The sun shone brightly through the sliding glass door that separate the dining room from the freedom of the backyard.

"But Mom," It wasn't fair, all the other kids got to go on the big yellow bus to the building with the cool playground that Jordan liked to play on during the weekend. They didn't have to sit inside and practice their s's, which Jordan was still trying to tell her Mom were just squiggles. "Can't we play now and do the squiggles later?"

The pleading usually worked for a little while, but this time it seemed to have no effect.

"Jordan," Her Mom grabbed her writing hand and a wave of emotions rolled through Jordan: fustration, guilt, determination. She didn't know what to do. The emotions were not her own, they belonged to her mother. She said nothing as her hand was dragged through the shape of the squiggle. Once her hand was released she felt the foreign emotions fade, and disappear entirely.

I Got Bored...

This is what happens when I get bored.

Another desktop picture. The images are from the episode "What Is and What Should Never Be". However, they are taken from Supernatural Caps. The text on the right side of the desktop picture (can be seen if full-size) is mine. I wrote it for a character contest where the contestants had to write a short spiel about who their favorite character was and why. It was at Remote and I won second place.
