My New Desktop, and the Wallpapers I Am Currently Using

My big birthday present from my parents this year was a desktop computer. I bought myself a fancy new monitor to go with it as well.

I am using the wallpaper below on my new desktop and bigass monitor. It was made by someone NOT me.

The wallpaper below this one is the one I made for my laptop monitor. I love it very much.

If you see some kind of theme with these wallpapers, I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't have a crazy new obsession. Whatever.

My Newest Wallpaper: It Goes With One of My Newest Fandoms

I've had a Stargate Atlantis wallpaper on my desktop for a couple weeks now and in all honesty, it was terrible. The picture wasn't good enough quality to be a wallpaper on it's own. I found a tutorial tonight (the text version is here and the video version is here). I did the tutorial once with the picture the tutorial maker used, then decided to use it to make a wallpaper with. The result is definitely not what I was planning, and that is a good thing. I love how it turned out.

I'm using the one with text for my wallpaper, but I wanted a copy without text. This took me about two hours to make. And I've had Erin come out a few times and look at it with a fresh set of eyes. I'm really proud of the fonts I chose and how well they work together. I've been reading a bunch (like two books and hundreds of websites) about typography, so it's really nice to actually do something with all the stuff that I've read.

For anyone who cares here some random information about the pieces of this wallpaper.

Fonts used:
For the big script-y "Mulder" and "Scully": One Fell Swoop, size 60pt (color: white, opacity: 100%).
For the big script-y "&": Mutlu, size 200pt (color: black, opacity: 50%).
For the quote text: Mongolian Baiti, size 16pt (color: black, opacity: 50%).
For the "Mulder" and "Scully" to mark who said what in the quotes: Impact, size 18pt (color: white, opacity: 100%, space between letters: 200).

Smoke brushes: The smoke brushes were made by falln-brushes and downloaded from http://www.falln-brushes.deviantart.com/. The link to the smoke brushes is in the text version of the tutorial listed above.

The original picture: Located here. I'd post the full address, but it is a long and disgusting URL.

My Non-NaNo Post of Recent Going Ons

I have a new desktop picture, and really, when do I not have a new desktop picture?

The picture used in this wallpaper is from Stargate Atlantis and the quote is from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I love the Doctor (very much), but I needed a new wallpaper. I actually still want another new one, but it's exam week and I don't have time to play around in Photoshop for fun (but I do have time to update my blog more than I have in the past month, good call me).

As said already, it's exam week. I have a debate tomorrow where I'll be debating whether or not we (human beings) have freewill or not. I'm debating that we do. My partner/opponent is debating that we don't have free will. We're supposed to use scientific evidence to support our claims, but there is no scientific evidence to support the idea that humans have free will. It's supports Steve position that there is no free will, decision making is a process in the brain that we don't have control over. Also, I hate debating and we have to do it in front of the class. I'm screwed.

After that it shouldn't be that bad though. I have two exams on Tuesday. In the first one I have to talk about a paper I'm writing and a work of art I'm making. In the other I have to present the flash web site I've been working on. I'm not worried about either of those. I'm doing pretty well on the paper (haven't actually started writing it, but I'm working on the artwork) and I've been spending a lot of time on the flash project. It will be way better than the other two flash projects I've done for the class. Wednesday I have my PERL exam. That one worries me. We (my group and I) have to give a presentation, not only to the class, but also to some people in charge of a website. Our big project for the year was to make a PERL application of some kind that could go on this web site. So the group will the best/most impressive application will actually go up on the site. Our's is a time management quiz. The user answers a bunch of questions and the quiz tells if the player is sucking at time management (always choosing homework over friends), doing okay with time management (school over friends/family) or if they are really good at time management (balancing family, friends, school, work, etc.). My PERL exam is at 8am, so I'm staying up all night and going to the exam, then going to bed after it's over. I'm going to take naps so that I'm rested, but if I actually go to bed, I won't be able to get up and ready and to campus on time. My exam on Thursday is for my Algebra class. I'm getting a 96.5 in the class, so I could tank the exam and still get a better grade in the class than some of my classmates.

On a completely different note, I bought season 3 of Bones over Thanksgiving Break (and watched all of it). I brought seasons 1 and 2 back to school with me, so I've been going through and watching episodes here and there when I have free time. I really love that show. Friday night I watched an episode that I'd seen many times, but I watched it with a commentary by Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz. It's was hilarious. They are so funny and adorable together in the show. I kinda want to rewatch all of Torchwood because I kind of miss the boy-kissing, but I left my external hard drive home with Erin, and since I watched the show for the first time in like HD, I'm too picky to wait for it to load and watch crappy quality online.

Over Thanksgiving Break Dad and Erin introduced me to World of Warcraft. It is a terribly addictive game, but I am managing to play it and still appear to classes and shower every day. My friends are worried that I'll become a shut in that never showers, but I feel really dirty when I don't shower, and that's not going to change and I'm already kind of shut in, so that's not going to change much. I do my best to not talk about all the creatures and zombies I've killed when I'm around them, but it really is an addicting game.

I have more to say, but I'm going to continue it in another post because my tags are too long when I add on the next two I need and I feel that I need all of them.

New Wallpaper

I made a new wallpaper and hated it so much that it only lasted on my laptop for about a day. Yesterday I made this one, which I like very much and am very pleased about.

I <3 this wallpaper.

My Newest Desktop Picture and Associated Obsession

I present to you ("you" meaning anyone other than me that is reading this) my newest desktop picture. Ta da!

Along with this wallpaper (which took me two-three hours to make in Photoshop) I present my newest obsessions: Doctor Who and David Tennant (and Torchwood, but that's not in the wallpaper).

I went on a Doctor Who and Torchwood bender. I watched all of the new!Who, the show that restarted in 2005, and Torchwood in about three and a half weeks. During that time I also went to classes and socialized. It was great fun. I am, at this moment, listening to the Torchwood soundtrack, and have been doing so for the past week or so. Because one of the first things I noticed when I started watching Torchwood was that I really liked the music. I also really like the opening. I'm taking a class called Digital Interactive Design this semester. It's a Flash class. And I would love to be able to make a sequence as cool as the Torchwood opening in Flash.

Fic: Paperwork Blues, Picture and Wallpaper

First, the desktop picture that started all this insanity.

The signature on here is my handwriting and it took me forever. I was having serious roblem with the P's in Sheppard, so I didn't write them. Before I gave up on them completely though, I asked Erin to help me and she wrote "Sheppard" in a ridiculous way that inspired the story that follows.

Title: Paperwork Blues
Author: Meg1742 with help and inspiration from Erin
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Genre: Light Crack.
Spoilers: None, unless you don't know that Sheppard is the Military Commander.
Words: Like 200 or so.
Summary: Sheppard is doing paperwork.

It was days like this that made Rodney question the sanity of his friend. Only the overgrown child that was Colonel "I'm A Trouble Magnet" Sheppard could sign a serious requistion form with a stick figure surfing the "r" of his last name.

"What is this?" The Colonel looked up from what looked to be weeks worth of paperwork and squinted at the page Rodney held.

"I'm not sure. Looks like a requisition form."

"I meant this." Rodney stepped forward, closer to the desk, and pointed at the signature.

"A really artistic drawing of a person with great hair surfing."

"This is a serious requisition. Did you even read it?"

"Yes, Rodney, I did." Sheppard sounded exhasperated, of course he'd read the requisition. He'd read hundreds of them. Sometimes being held captive by the Genii or Wraith seemed like more fun than dealing with the paperwork that came with the Military Commander position. "And that is a serious drawing. Look at the shading in that stick figure. Not everyone can do shading like that with a ball-point pen."

"Yes, and the waves look completely realistic."

"That's what I was going for."

"You're insane."

John looked at all the paperwork that still needed to be completed. "I'm pretty damn close."

Rodney surveyed the stacks of paper. "I'm heading to lunch. Want to tag along?"

"Absolutely."

And here's the actual picture that inpired the story. It enlarges a lot.

New Wallpapers

I have made some new wallpaers recently that I would like to share. All of them are 1280x800.

The picture for this wallpaper is from the Stargate Atlantis season 4 finale "The Last Man". I had a lot of fun with the coloring of the cap. I really enjoy how Joe Flanigan is standing and I will forever and always love his hair.

I made this while following a tutorial.

This is wallpaper that is gracing my desktop right now. I love it. I had too much fun coloring this picture to use as a desktop picture. I have a feeling that staring at this desktop picture will distract me from actually doing things on my computer.

Desktop Pictures I've Made Recently

Here are some desktop pictures I've made that I hadn't posted here.

If anyone is looking for my Excited Geek Art site it's at this address for now: http://learning.excited-geek.com/art/. I had to move it when I updated my main site.

Erin, your birthday card is in the "learning" subdomain as well.

This was the first Stargate Atlantis desktop picture I made. I didn't spend much time on it, I just wanted a Stargate Atlantis-themed wallpaper for my desktop. I have a picture of the city of Atlantis (maybe the same one I used in this wallpaper) as the background for my computer's second login (it's my writing account and the city of Atlantis is very inspirational for me).

This is the desktop picture I made last night. I needed a pretty John Sheppard wallpaper to replace the Evil!John wallpaper I was using (below). This isn't how I wanted this to turn out, but I can deal with it for now.

This desktop picture has been on my screen for a while. It's Evil!John Sheppard from the Stargate Atlantis episode "Doppelganger".

This is a cutdown version of a desktop picture I made for Erin's desktop. This is cut to fit my screen. The images are from the Stargate Atlantis season 4 episode "Doppelganger". Erin and I loved Evil!Sheppard. I think it only spent about a day or so on my desktop though before I moved on.

This is Meg from Supernatural in the episode "Devil's Trap". At first I wanted to add more to it, but I think it looks good how it is. This spent a weeek or so on my desktop.

Out of all the desktop pictures I've made, this is one of my favorites. It's Sheppard getting his ass kicked by Teyla in the Stargate Atlantis episode "Hot Zone".

Now I'm going to watch "The Dukes of Hazard" on tv. It's the newer one. The General Lee is a hot car. Maybe not as hot as Metallicar, but close.

MOAR WEB TRAVELS

In the effort to post more this year, I present two links to add to everybody's web travels.

Link 1: Excited Geek Art. I enjoy making websites, desktop pictures and icons. For this I was able to do all of those. I made the site, and I'd already made most of the art on it. I'll continue to update as I make more desktop pictures and icons. It's also perfect 'cuz I can get bored and change the layout if I want to.

Link 2: Transmissions from the Sock Drawer. A blog my sis and I are posting to. We want to write an epic-ly CRACKTASTIC crossover story. SO far we have a summary of what we want to do. And right now we have planned to include Bones, Supernatural, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1, Veronica Mars and MacGyver in our story.

I'm going to add both of these links to my link list.

Digital Artwork (a.k.a. Meg Gets More Desktop Pictures)

The true purpose of my Digital Artwork class is that I get new desktop pictures. And they are pretty. Let me show you the pretty.

Made using pictures taken by Monique at the August 25 Drake Bell, Corbin Bleu, Aly & AJ, Bianca Ryan concert. Guess who we went to see.

I made the last one tonight, and it's my current desktop picture. The Drake Bell one and the black and white Supernatural picture (from "Route 666") with a stanza of Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken" are both Digital Artwork projects. And I got grades for them. So basically, Digital Artwork is a class where I get to do what I usually do (make desktop pictures, mess with Supernatural screencaps, other photoshop things) and I get grades for it. What an awesome class.

Really Quick

Look is pretty.

It's 1280x800.

Check out http://moments.misplaced.co.uk/ that's where I learned how to make it. They have tutorials for Photoshop and lots of lovely desktop pictures.

EDIT: Misplaced Moments has become Belldonna, located at the following address: http://www.deadly-nightshade.com/

Oh God! Not Another One?!

Yes, another wallpaper. Because Leviathan's screen is so large none of my other wallpaper fit. So I've made three new ones and they've each had their turns on Leviathan's 1280x800 pixel screen. The latest of the three is gracing my desktop now. I made only half an hour ago or so. And it's just so full of pretty and made of awesome that I wanted to share it.

That's really all I have to say. I keep getting distracted by my desktop picture now. I don't know how I'm going to get anything done.

Bored Again and New Found Love

I got bored again (this summer is really boring). And as per the norm I made a desktop picture. This one is of Big Bad.

With the making of that desktop picture I have realized my undying love...for Big Bad. That's right. Big Bad is bringing sexy back to the underworld. He's so charismatic. He makes crazy, mother-killing, demon look fun.

I installed AIM on my Mom's computer and I needed an icon, so I made one. It's below. I think I'm going to go watch "All Hell Breaks Loose" (both parts) and "In My Time Of Dying".

Got Bored, Nothin' More

I got bored. Here is the result:

Every letter has a different picture in it. See how many you can identify episodes for. All of the pictures are of Dean (not Jensen, Dean).

I changed my mind. I don't care if anyone else can identify them all. I want to see if I can.
D: Born Under A Bad Sign
E: In my Time of Dying
A: Dead in the Water
N: Bugs
W: The Benders
I: Salvation
N: Shadow
C: Something Wicked
H: Bloody Mary
E: Bloody Mary
S: Tall Tales
T: All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2
E: What Is, And What Should Never Be
R: All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2

This was one I made in WebTeam that I don't think I'd posted. It's been the acting wallpaper for my Mom's computer for a few days. But now the Dean Winchester one has taken over (the one above this one).

More Art

I'm realizing that I get bored alot. Anyway, I just made these. The pictures are from the episode "No Exit". The one above is 1280 x 720. And it's just the three pictures blended together. No special effects.

This one has a bunch of effects, like Grain and blending mode changes. It is also 1280 x 720.

This one I tried to use the same effects as the one above, but it is 1024 x 720.

Note to self: laptop should have a widescreen (so I can put more pictures in to desktop wallpapers).

Art Is Pretty

I got bored and ended up with this.

It's 1280 x 720 (widescreen) and the pictures are from the episode "Bloodlust".

After saving I realized I couldn't size it down to fit, so I cut it down and made two that are 1024 x 768.

So Monique, the top one should fit your laptop when you get it back from being fixed.

I Got Bored...

This is what happens when I get bored.

Another desktop picture. The images are from the episode "What Is and What Should Never Be". However, they are taken from Supernatural Caps. The text on the right side of the desktop picture (can be seen if full-size) is mine. I wrote it for a character contest where the contestants had to write a short spiel about who their favorite character was and why. It was at Remote and I won second place.

That Last Desktop Picture

Okay, so I actually found two more that I liked.

Smile :: I just had to use those shots from "All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2" in a desktop picture.

All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2 :: The scene that this screencap is from was amazing. And these two desktop pictures just show how they manage to cram all this emotion stuff into just one episode of Supernatural. Jensen should get an Emmy for this episode: crying, smiling, shooting. It had it all. The episode had chick flick moments and jokes and Bobby (who kicks ass and wins at life. Those daggers he was staring at Dean when he saw Sam alive again, perfect.) And Samuel Colt was an awesome cowboy. The plot was amazing. And I love Big Bad (the YED) he's so funny even though he's evil.
Also: I love the quote I found: The only cure for grief is action. I didn't know what to put on there so I went to some quote site and I scanned through the quotes on grief. And that one just jumped out at me. It's so simple, but it's deep as well. I can kind of imagine Dean realizing that as he's mourning and then acting on it and leaving to make the deal at the crossroads.

Posting Again

It's true...I have no life. I won't even deny it. I just have so much to say tonight, so much to share.

I've been checking out PicSpams (I love them so much!) and I was scrolling through one with pics from "All Hell Breaks Loose Part 1". One of the pics caught me because I just love everything about it. This is right after Andy has sent the telepathic message to Dean about where they (Andy, Sam, etc.) are and Dean received the messages (painfully).

Like I said, I love everything about this picture. I love Dean (not a new thing). I love that he's leaning on the hood of the car. It makes sense because he was standing right there when the "visions" started and that's just where he would land, but he kind of rests against the car for a quick second (obviously long enough to screencap). It's like he takes some strength from the car. Everytime I see this cap my heart stops for a second and then restarts.

The picture above makes me melt like the fangirl I am. And I'm glad I now have a good copy on my blog to stare at when I get bored.

The picture above is from "Houses of the Holy" (I think). It's from the end of a picspam and I think it shows what Supernatural is really about: brothers, family, hotness, siblings, love, relatives.

And now what I actually wanted to post. More desktop pictures.

Adorkable :: This one took forever. I have to take the pictures out of their original backgrounds and put them all in one picture. And then I found the sunset and stuck that in the back.

And Cute, Huh? :: The line is from Smallville. Lana and Jason are talking and Lana says something to the effect of "I don't know how to say this without sounding totally stuck up." To which Jason (Jensen) responds "Oh, I already know you're stuck up...actually, I wanted to talk to you about that," Lana fires back a reasonably lame "oh, you're funny." And Jason says my favorite line ever "And cute, huh?" Umm...YES!! I watched that scene so many times. The first black and white picture is from that scene. I had fun making this one.

I Watch For The Plot :: I just felt like making a new desktop picture.

Metallicar :: I was bored and I loves the car. So much love.

Splendiferous :: I love the picture, so I changed it to black and white and blended it to the black. Then I wanted to have his name across the bottom and a word down the side that shared the 's' in 'Ackles'. So, my sister and I found the word splendiferous and ended up moving his name to the left of the screen (it had originally been on the right).

Supernatural :: I needed to change the desktop picture on the computer I use in school. I took the title card from season 1 and the title card from season 2. I made sure the word matched up and did some layering technique. I can't remember which one, but it looks cool.

What Are You Watching? :: I think I made this one after watching Grey's Anatomy, maybe. I'm not sure. Whatever, I love hurt/comfort so Supernatural is better than Grey's Anatomy anyway (though I liked Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Denny). i like Grey's...I just like Supernatural more.

Snow :: I had downloaded a whole bunch of pictures and needed to do something with them. That's what I ended up with. I like it.

Demons I Get :: I made that a couple days ago after watching "The Benders" and realizing that Jensen looked amazing (a shocker, I know) in that episode. I loved his hair so much. It was perfect.

Faith ::I had watched "Faith" and seen the scene the screencap came from. It just screamed to be Photoshopped.

And now that I've proved that I am a total geek and I really need a life I should log off and go to bed. I hove one more desktop picture, but it's on my other flash drive (I have three) and I don't want to go get it. I'll put it here tomorrow maybe). But for now I need to get sleep. I think I'm starting to get sick because my throat is really sore. Good night!
